HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY

I am somewhat hesitant to admit I like watching "American Idol". I watched the last 2 nights and was reminded of the old saying, "Honesty is the best policy". My heart went out to some of the contestants. As I listened to them sing, and by the way I CANT CARRY A TUNE IN A DUMPTRUCK!! so I have no room to say anything, But for them to get up and think they can sing,WOW....it was bad. My question is, why have their loved ones NOT been honest with them and tell them, singing is not their strong point.

Prior to standing before the three judges, they brag on being "The next American Idol", but when they dont get the "golden ticket" they cuss and bad mouth American Idol and the judges. But, had they been invited to Hollywood, everything would be great.

So, Honesty being the best policy is true, though its painful initially, it can prevent further heartache and sometimes humiliation. I know this from experience, trust me, when someone is upfront and honest with you about something, be it a talent, a relationship, a job, whatever it may be, take their honesty as them loving you enough to tell you what you "need" to hear, not what you "want" to hear.

As I was watching this I had an "ah-ha" moment. I have had friends and people in the past who tried being honest with me about things but because it wasnt what I wanted to hear, I pretended they didnt say it. I would also try to assure them that I knew and believed differently.
It's funny how someone on the "outside" can see things differently than we do. My best friend, Jamie, as been that "person on the outside" for me several times and I admit he was right almost everytime. Thanks Bro!
So back to the people on American Idol, the judges tell them "no" and they beg and plead for another shot to sing another song, but it doesnt happen. When they walk out of the room crying, my heart does go out to them, but those tears could have been prevented had someone loved them enough to say, "singing just is not your strong point" I have been that guy walking out of the room because my dreams or plans came crashing down and I was in tears. I know it is not fun, but had I listened to people being honest with me, the tears may have still flown, but maybe not as long or as hard.

Getting Started

Just getting started on this whole blogging thing. As I start, I am reminded that starting anything new is fun, exciting, sometimes scary but its new.

I believe that we all have the ability to do anything God calls us to do. Philippias 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"

Not that blogging is something hard, but it just reminded me of new beginnings. So, as I start my blog and you do whatever it is, remember if we keep Christ number one in our life, we will be amazed at what HE will do. As Max Lucado said, " Let God handle the task, START to FINISH" (in his book "3:16")
